COSMETIC ACUPUNCTURE
What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?
Cosmetic Acupuncture aka Facial Acupuncture aka Facial Rejuvenation, is a relaxing, non-toxic and natural treatment that can address a diverse array of skin conditions. By delicately placing acupuncture needles on specific facial points and distal acupuncture points on the body, this treatment effectively targets both surface-level face concerns and underlying imbalances within the body.
What concerns can Cosmetic Acupuncture address?
~ Fine lines and wrinkles
~ Acne and acne scarring
~ Sagging and drooping skin
~ Puffiness in the face
~ Dry or flakey skin
~ Dull complexion
~ Pigmentation and uneven skin tone
~ Muscle tension in the face
~ Reactive skin
~ Skin tone and texture
~ Bell's Palsy (treatment is most effective when administered within the first 24 hours.)
How does it work?
By inserting acupuncture needles into specific points on the face, causing micro-traumas, the body is signaled to heal the area by sending collagen, blood, and qi (energy). The stimulation of collagen production in the area can help reduce the signs of ageing. If the skin is saggy and loose, needles are inserted into motor points to signal the muscles to tighten and firm. Alternatively, if the facial muscles are tense, needles are inserted to ease tension and relax the muscles. Needles are also placed into specific acupuncture points on the body to address any underlying imbalances and promote the free flow of qi, blood circulation, bringing oxygen, and nutrients to the skin.
Acupuncture can also enhance lymphatic drainage, resulting in reduced puffiness and an improvement in skin texture. Additionally, acupuncture can reduce stress and promote relaxation, which also benefits the skin.

What to expect:
In the initial consultation, a comprehensive assessment is performed, encompassing not only the skin but also overall health. Factors such as digestion, sleep patterns, and mental well-being are taken into account. This thorough evaluation ensures that the treatment method precisely targets both external skin conditions and internal imbalances that may influence skin concerns. The holistic approach includes facial acupuncture, distal body acupuncture, Gua Sha massage, facial cupping, LED light therapy, and the option to incorporate internal Chinese herbal medicine.
How many sessions will I need?
It is recommended to begin with 4-6 weekly treatments. Then continue with maintenance sessions every 4 to 8 weeks to sustain the benefits. This also depends on factors like your age and skin type.
The results you get from Cosmetic Acupuncture depend on how well your body responds to the treatment. Generally, if you're in good health, you're likely to see better results because your body's response system works at its best.
Cosmetic Acupuncture treatments build on each other, meaning the benefits add up over time, and each session improves the results. If you stick to the follow-up sessions, the results you achieve can last for years.
Are there any contraindications?
~ Botox or fillers - It is advised that you wait at least 3-6 months after the injectable if you want to target the same area. Cosmetic Acupuncture can be adminstered in the areas on the face without botox.
~ Blood thinners - These increase the risk of bruising.
~ Cold sores - Avoid treatment, if you are experiencing an episode of cold sores.
~ Pregnancy
Are there any side effects?
Side effects following a Cosmetic acupuncture treatment are uncommon due to its gentle nature. In rare cases, you might experience temporary and minor redness or bruising. Additionally, if you are nearing or currently menstruating, heightened sensitivity may cause you to feel the needles more than usual.
